I am a newly recovering addict who is slowly learning how to live again. It is not always easy, but it’s definitely an interesting road. I am realizing that fear has played a larger-than-life role in my illness. It has dominated me in every aspect of life and must be defeated. They say, “Words without work is dead”. I am ready to share all of me, the good and bad. I thought long and hard about pouring out my soul for any Joe-Shmo to read and judge. The fact of the matter is that people are dying from addiction at record pace, largely due to social stigmas. We are afraid to ask for help for fear of being judged or ridiculed. Addiction IS a very real chronic disease which must be treated daily. Without proper treatment, we die. If I keep silent, I am facilitating the misguided myths, misconceptions and the unbelievable ignorance surrounding this disease. I am ok with my truth today and if my experience can help just one person gain hope, this will all be worth it.
Day 4- Just Believe

Day 4- Just Believe

Today blew my socks off (or in my case, flip flops off)!  Every state is more beautiful than the last.  Well, maybe just beautiful in way different way.  My friend Mike said “just wait til you get to Arizona”.  He was right!  As I drove in, I broke down in tears and thanked God that I am alive today to see all of His wonderment.  If you had told me 10 months ago that I would be making this journey, I would have said, “Impossible”.  Goes to show that nothing is impossible if you throw out all doubts and just believe!  

I spent most of the day in the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.  The road that leads through the desert is part of the original Route 66.  I met a lot of people along the way from all over the country and a couple from Brussels.  Seems Route 66 draws a certain type of people; kind, fun loving and adventurous.  Here are some pictures from today.

    Hi Leslie, so proud of you, always know that God is with you. Never, Never forget that. Arizona is beautiful, your pictures brings back memorys for me as I have been in Arizona many times and seen all these places. My cousin lives in Payson, Arizona.     Arizona is beautiful. The Grand Canyon….breath-takingly, amazing. I do not know how anyone could look at some of these places and doubt there is a God! That He spoke it all into existence…in all of it’s (and our) complexities? Is nothing less than Awesome! Of course, I am not telling you anything you do not already know. I am so happy and proud for you and my heart is overjoyed knowing you are alive….really ALIVE and experiencing LIFE and all it has to offer. Waking up from what the enemy tried to steal from you. Baby girl….you let that light shine! Give Him all the glory and you take in every precious moment. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Popped by Hobby Lobby this afternoon after teaching and saw a big ole ROUTE 66 sign…thought of you and your Journey and smiled a knowing smile. Love you my sweet friend.
